I wish I could give you one. I will say that the number seven has long been revered as a holy number, not just by the Judeo-Chistio-Islamic tradition, but by all the world's religions large and small, new and old. Seven is the largest single-digit prime number, divisible only by itself and 1, so it has been labeled a "perfect" number, complete unto itself. That's the general answer. I hope someone sees this posting and gives you the in-depth answer you seek, but in Buddhism, doesn't the practicioner eschew ties to ritual and concern herself/himself with the meaning behind the ritual? Given that, the more general meaning of the number seven could be more helpful. Either way, good luck on your quest.
Peace and understanding... Sam :)
