If you look back at what little we know of the history of Buddhism, you'll find that, though hesitant to do so at first, the Buddha set up a sisterhood for female followers not long after he founded the monkhood. Given the time period in which he did this, and the Indian attitudes against women which still color many of their traditions today, this acknowledgement of women's religious rights was phenomenal. I doubt the Buddha EVER intended women to be regarded as evil. I would personally hesitate to call any sect which excludes or denegrates women Buddhist. Keep seeking...
