Your problem is similar to mine. I have read many books on buddhism, but there is no sanghas within an hours drive from where I live. It can be very frustrating and lonely to journey without a teacher or any other buddhists. I have found help meeting people on the web who are also buddhists, who have similar backgrounds as me, and face the same difficulties of loneliness, lack of teacher, etc. It is possible, I believe, to practice in the way we are. You just must remember that Buddhism is not just reading books and gathering knowledge of it. You must meditate daily, diligently. You must practice loving-kindness and compassion throughout the day, to all sentient beings, even the guy who pulls out in front of you in his car, or the woman who grabs the last cool toy you wanted for your child. This is difficult, but extremely rewarding. If you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to email me anytime.
