A Mahayana Buddhist is someone who is very aware of the suffering of all sentient (living) beings in this world, and dedicates their life to help alleviate that suffering. We take the Bodhisattva Vow which means we pass up the rewards of Nirvana after we are enlightened until all beings are enlightened like us. A good site to find out more is The Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition at www.fpmt.org which has some great teachings from H.H. Dalai Lama and some other famous teachers. Its a wealth of information. Also my friend has a site that gives very easy to understand info on buddhism. Just email me and I will be able to get it for you. I don't know it off the top of my head.
Good luck on your journey. Remember to follow your heart. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me anytime or leave a question on our forum.
