What you Did were correct.
Listen to your parents, follow Buddha teaching...
But your react on what other said about your action some how inappropriate .For us, we should not talk back to those who did not understand the Buddha teaching, a smile may be better or "..Thy shall not kill...", because your are right and to the other you may be "weird".
In addition my mother family members are Catholic ( Also my wife is Catholic ).My father side members are Buddhist and things not went right for my parents as we remembered.
But my self Buddhist and my wife Catholic doing just fine through 13 years together.
We Buddhist respect all other religious people as friends, brothers, sisters. We feel your relationship is fine now, but we need to talk to your friend about what Jesus Christ's teaching "...Love thy neighbor..ect.." so actually we need to find some common points and relating them together so all people around us will be friends.I hope that you don't breakup with her over this matter, and if you have sometime read Bible that may help to understand your friend better.( I read both Sutras and Bibble ).
Wish you all happy.
