Hope this note finds both you and your girlfriend well.
Follow your heart and buddhist teachings. You know that killing is wrong, even for the ugliest and scariest of bugs. I can see where your girlfriend is coming from, as I was brought up Christian, and christians do tend to think other religions are "weird", not because we are weird, but because of simple lack of knowledge about other beliefs. Just try to explain to her that you believe all life is precious, and whether she believes in rebirth or not, she should agree that life is precious. My husband often laments over the bugs and spiders, flies and bees that either stay put in the house, or are peacefully "shooed" out of the house into the great outdoors. He knows I will not kill any bug, no matter how big or small. In time your girlfriend should understand where you are coming from. She may never agree with all your beliefs, but christians do believe life is precious. Remind her of that. If she has trouble understanding relationships between Buddhism and Christianity, may I suggest Thich Naht Hanh's book "Living Buddha, Living Christ" which brings both religions together and focuses on there similarities. It may help her relate. Don't give up on her. It'll be ok.
