Interesting question.
Having personally known someone with paranoid- schizophrenia I can assure you that this is definitely a disease of the mind and no change of thinking on the afflicted persons part is going to cure it, obviously because the disease itself prevents a rational or "sane" approach to even emerge within that person.
Which brings of course the dilemma: if 'bad' karma is indeed the cause, how does one deal with the ongoing 'bad' karma that will perpetuate in this lifetime that a person who has a mental disease may generate because of his inability to think properly? eg. harming or even killing another because of an irrational belief that person was a devil etc.
Is he just clocking up more bad karma in an indefinite cycle of which there is no escape?

Peace,
Cat
