I'd love to offer you a solution. I'm 20 and have just returned to England after a year in the States. I discovered Buddhism for myself while I was over there and it did get me thinking about the Americanization of the world. I must admit this is not a solely American phenomenon. Life in Britain is very similar and I often find myself being dragged into that way of life. I think it is very easy to say..."I don't need money to be happy" or "everyone here is so greedy" (a favourite of mine while in America), but it is actually very difficult to live in such a world and NOT be driven by money. I would hope that I could be happy with or without money in my pocket, but it is hard to see it that way when money is such an important part of how we live in the western world.
