I have been all my life - an Open and Free thinking Catholic as I believe many catholics are. I believe that the Buddha WAS enlightened and see very many similarities between what he taught and DID with his life with that of Jesus Christ-i.e. Selfless compassion for others.
The one thing which has always bothered me is that according to the New Testament- Jesus said " I am the way the truth and the light , no one gets to the Father , except through me"- I have always thought this to smack of religious dogma and yet on reading
and contemplating Buddhism I find that there is a void
I have reflected on this and know that it is a devotional void - i.e. There is no longer the One God to worship or his Son.
Why does it feel as if I have lost a friend??? Why this sense of emptiness without Devotion. I know that some Buddhists revere the Buddha( although he was strict about this not happening), is this a way of filling that void which many humans have?????
Does anyone else out there know what I am experiencing ? And does anyone have any ideas about possible solutions?
I recently read the Dalai Lama's " Freedom in Exile" and noticed some aspects of Tibetan Buddhism are quite
"devotional". The use of oracles also made me think, as did the acceptance of the existence of other god deities. All of which is a far cry from the Agnostic Buddhism in Stephen Batchelor's Book "BUddhism without Beliefs". Please help and thankyou!
