: Dear Buddhist Village,
: August 4, 2000
: Thank you for your inspiring and informative site on Buddhism. I have become curious to explore the tenets of Buddhism a bit more because of my curiosity in the hollow Earth Theory and the Buddhist statements with reference to the hollow Earth cities of Shangri La, Shamballa and Agharta.
: One thing that I have noted is that even though Ahimsa, i.e, vegetarianism, is a basic tenent of Buddhism, Buddhists in Asia do not practice it. I hope that this is not the case among Buddhists in other parts of the world.
: Anyway, thanks again for making the site available.

You are mistaken, AHIMSA does not relate to VEGETARIANISM. Ahimsa is a State of mind.Vegetarianism is a food habit. You can not impose any ban on any ones food habit. People lives near River/Sea Side are bound to eat fish, and people lives in high altitude area also tent to become a meat eater. Buddha belives in middle path. No extrim physical suffering,or nor to live in unwanted luxury. You can attain suprime happyness in NIRVANA slowly and gradualy.
Bhuddha himself was a non vegetarian.
No matter what you eat,But it matters much if your action and deed huts others. So no killing if you want to speed-up your journey towards NIRVANA
A brother in Dharma.
