In the Tibetan between state, a possible way of attaining liberation is by recognizing the mild and fierce dieties as images of your mind, not as something that can harm or make contact with you and by realizing this and recognizing them as your archetype deities, even the dullest and most nonvirtuous in life could acheive liberation in this way. I know that some believe in some things such as these a bit more fundamentally than symbolically, but the point being, the deities are part of mind, like everything else. Putting faith into an omnipotent and omniscient God as being the constructor of our reality is quite another matter. It would have have to have been outside of mind, or atleast the human mind. Likewise as you mentioned the political ramifications seem to really add up in the name of a "God," it becomes a cultural issue as well at that point. Anyhow thanks for replying.
