I think that the pope's brand of Christianity, that of an exclusivistic nature, is against the tides of the current world. If anything, I think this will just serve to diminish Christianity's reputation as an intolerant religion. Fortunately, there are some liberal Christians in existence, who fight for the right things and tolerate others beliefs. I only hope that these are the ones who become more prominent in the future. But as long as the pope says things such as this, among preaching a whole host of other impractical conventions, than it's in doubt. Either he'll be coveted and his conservative values will reign, or the West will grow tired of him and the Church will fade off. Anyway religious tolerance should be strongly encouraged in this day and age, there's enough things to cause division already.

Peace,
Shane
