I am a student of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Samkhya who has become interested in Buddhism. How does the Buddhists explain the origin of evil in the world? Is it caused solely by the ingnorance of human beings? Or is there some other principle, maybe something corresponding to the concept of "maya" in Vedanta, that is responsible for evil. I surmise that evil in the Buddhist context is neither something absolute nor something eternal, as fundamentally only consciousness is real.
Hoping to get many opinions and responses
