I must agree with Michael! Slow down!
Read up on Buddhism, read as much as you can possibly manage and then some more. If you can't afford to buy all the books then I can recommend to go to the library which hopefully has a lot of books on the suject.
Tibet has been occupied by China since 1959 and more then 6000 monastaries has been destroyed in Tibet by the Chinese and more then 1 million people has been murdered. Monks and nuns are not allowed to practice buddhism to its fullest and having pictures of HH Dalai Lama will give you prison for a long time, without a chance to fair trial.
There are lots of centers and monasteries around the world established by Tibetan refugees. I suggest that you look at the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition and their website at http://www.fpmt.org
There you can find teachings and centers around the world. Just to mention some of the things that you will find there.
I hope that you buddha dharma practice goes well.
