: I don't know when your departure day is but at the moment, there are heavy problems inside Tibet which start several months ago with the Chinese being told about the WBO and Tibet Culture shows were at the Smithsonian Institute here in Washington and so China voices her oponion to the world but theTibetans inside are really at their mercy and heavy problems right now. EXP; 8/25 coming from the World Tibet News- Just bits of the article.
: 1. In Llasa, government workers and cadres have been told that they must withdraw their children from the monasteriers & Nunneries in the the city.
: 2. House to house searches (1-3am) for religious paintings and pictures of the Dalal Lama in Lhasa and surrounding areas.
: 3. Religous crackdown affects not onl cadres or Party members but their entire families. 17 children have been withdraw from schools in India as if this is not done, their salaries and jobs are at stake.
: That is just to give you a idea of the present. I am told that you must go in as a group and not a single person and trying to get in to see the monasteries are almost impossible and talking to monks and even the every day person would be in danger talking to you.
: I am not trying to discourage you but know that even if you make the trip, you are watched all the time. I just want you to be aware of what is taking place at this moment. It seems this will continue for a couple of months.
: What have the travel agencies been telling you?
: I would be interested in hearing their replies.
: There is a Buddhist group close by you I think, maybe they could help you in some way.
: What you are going to see there will not be as you are expecting.

: Susan

Susan, As a seasoned traveller where would be the next best place to experience Tibetan Buddhism? Obviously if there is all that trouble there currently I would not wish to go there at the moment, also I would be most likely travelling alone (single woman mid 30s but I have travelled overseas alone before). Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated.
