It's usual for a beginner, especially a Western beginner. The West is unique in that it brings together dozens of Buddhist traditions, each with its own terminology, methods, and language. And the Buddhist way is starkly different from the American Christian path, making it seem even more daunting.
You should do two things. First, get a good teacher. That's vital. A teacher guides you on a detailed level, something no forum can do for you. The teacher can help you by knowing the best way to present the dharma to you, personally.
Second, you should focus on the dharma basics: the Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, and meditation practice. Everything else flows from those, but may have to flow later.
