I really don't think we should hint that the animals were PUT here for mankind. It denotes some supreme universal force is moulding the realms with mankind as the showcase.
Better to feel that the chickens and fishes and the rest of the fellas in Old MacDonald's farm were minding their own businesses when a few other creatures (including humans) discovered that they were edible.
It does sound kinda vicious, but existence is based on taints. Without taints, there would not be Samsara. Without Samsara, there wouldn't even be the Internet. And without the Internet, there wouldn't be this forum where we are having fun.
Somebody kills animals. We eat the remains. We, the eaters, aren't entirely without fault. But I would venture into a thought that this fault is not going to lead us to downfall. Thus, we can still move towards enlightenment without undue hindrance when we eat meat not killed by our own hands or by our direct order.
Those who do not eat meat have their own private reasons. But I find it disagreeable when someone becomes a vegetarian and tells the whole town about it.
