I cannot really say I've found infomation on lying specifically... but have read a sutra or two about similare things. One sutra on right speach, I'll give the URL in a moment, spoke of how to judge what you spoke of... but in it the Buddha didn't say anything a benificial lie. I'm not sure what this lack of an answer means... perhaps he disaproved... or maybe it depended on the circumstance. Here is the Sutra's URL: www.accesstoinsight.org/canon/majjhima/mn58.html. I hope that helps... sorry for lack of a definitive answer; if it helps, I'd lie to protect life... any other lie may have questionable motives (!MY OPINION!). A reason lieing is frowned upon is illustrated in this sutra: www.accesstoinsight.org/canon/khuddaka/itivuttaka/iti1.html#25 It's basicly says that a person that lies is likely to do many other things to. Make of it what you will.
