The Laughing Buddha is known as Hotei. He was an eccentric monk of the T'ang Dynasty, known for carrying a hemp sack on his back. This sack contained endless treasures which he would give freely, characterizing his virtue of giving. The first Buddha was Shakyamuni Buddha. "The wise sage of the Shakya Clan. Buddha statues come in many different poses. One pose is The Earth Witness Mudra. When Buddha reached enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree He touched the earth to witness His enlightenment. Another pose shows the Buddha laying on his right side on his deathbed, the Paranirvana Buddha. The Buddha of the future is The Maitreya Buddha. I hope this is right.
