I appreciate your interesting comment. Part of my problem is a genuine fear of spiders I have always had this problem. As a child I experienced an incident involving a spider that has left me with the total "creeps" where they are concerned. I have made huge strides with insects of any other kind like crickets etc. ...moving them outside myself But I get so upset just seeing a black widow spider or any other large spider and I don't think I would ever be able to go anywhere near one either outside or inside. I do alot of gardening and this is an issue for me as I come across snails, worms etc. almost daily. I refrain from "stepping" on any of these creatures anymore. Believe me, I used to. But now I just feel horrible if I do. Spiders are another thing....I cannot kill them, but only because I am in such fear of getting anywhere near them and I just flee the area when I see one. I don't know if I will ever overcome this fear. It may sound silly but it is real to me.
I have not progressed in my Buddhist life far enough to not eat meat or chicken. So I have a long way to go in that regard. And I was surprised to read your comment that the Dali Lama sometimes eats meat. Forum comments are so interesting.
