: Being fairly new to Buddhism, I have read various literature, and, of course, have run into conflicting opinons and statements. I guess what's the most confusing to me, is that from what I understand, Buddhism does not believe in Gods, celestial beings, Hell and Heaven, etc....yet i have read references to such...can anyone help?
My reading is this: Buddha lives in a time and place with people who really believe in such stuff. Buddha does not think his time is well spent in debating that. Buddha, most of the time, would just say: "assume what you say is all true, will that be wise to do this..."
Imagine you have to teach your 90 year old GrandMa about internet and e-mail (or your 6 year old). You are not going to insist on a Physics/Electronics 101, or Comuter Science 101. You go with whatever terms they choose.
Anyway, 31 worlds for whoever wants to explore. (I read 10 hells and 18 hells in mostly Hamayana scriptures while "hell" is counted as only one on that webpage. Hmmm...)
