Yes, Buddhist monks shave their heads. It's symbolic of cutting the ties to worldly life and ways. The Buddha did it over 2500 years ago when he left his palace, monks do today both because of Buddha and because what it symbolizes. Also, in India hair appears to be a precious thing or of importance... at some Indian temples the offering of choice is the hair. That's a neat fact, and ties into why cutting of the hair symbolizes the givinig up of worldly ways. Well, that's what I heard:) Metta.
