thanks for the reply, you mentioned the Tibetans consider mantra to the 'secret teachings" from The Buddha, how could that be? Skaymuni (sorry for spelling) buddha said that he has hide none of his teachings from anyone before he passed away, he said there are no secret doctrines whatsoever WYSIWYG. Or are you refering to different buddhas besides him? like Amitabha or some other bodhisattvas?
: Hi, I wasn't going to post since I haven't a really good understanding of mantras. But what It seems to me is, the mantra is to stimulate different cakras (mispelt, but means energy points or such). To recite OM AHH HUM, some of the root sylables of mantras, is to acces the cakra above and between the eyes, in the throat, and in the heart, repectivly. I don't know enough about tantra to give a good explaination, but the mantra isn't like a magic phrase to make you better, it releases energy which helps you to gain awareness and renew the spirit... helping you clense the bad karma. This is what I understand... and I truly hope someone will give a really good explaination. As for the Buddha's view, I don't know, but the Tantra is big in Tibetan Buddhism and is said to be the Buddha's secret techings. I'm willing to buy that. I know that I don't use Mantras to much, but when I recite them things tend to become vibrant, light hearted and I am more aware of my surrondings... I don't know what that means.
: But I assume it's a good thing. Anyway, hopefully all this is correct and of help. Anybody else have something to say? Metta.
