: Everyone has to work on their own enlightenment, I have no doubt about it. But are you trying to say we can do it all alone, even if someone is new to the path? We don't need advices at all?

: I saw people who are drawn to those teachings which are commonly believed to be improper rather than real Buddhist teachings, as a result many of them had problems. I also saw people who tried to practise on their own without teacher and had so many strange experiences, as a result they became very problematic. Such experiences gives me the idea that it is rather risky to depend solely on our own concepts, especially at the early stage, we may be drawn to something because it appeals to our ego.

: I still have some confusions regarding Buddhism at this stage, so if there are more experienced and knowledgeable teachers whom I can ask, that'll be great. But then if you say I don't need advices, I can be my own guidance, I'll become more confused.

: Please be compassionate, I am just trying to learn.

Maybe just my background of Chan/Zen, don't take anybody's advice. You are likely run into (1) fake guru, (2) right answer but not for your question (3) you heard the words but not the meaning. Then, what is the purpose of a teacher even in the Chan/Zen history? After you "have got it", the teach can only 'verify' "Yes, what you see is what I saw".

Mediate and bound the idea around (do not assume the answer you get back will fit perfectly). I will read Sutra before I take anybody's word for it. I will sit down and think before I trust anything I read.

Continue to ask and listen, like everybody has being doing here, but assume no authority from anybody.

That's what I would do. Even the greatest teachers got 1-10% of the students 'enlightened'. What happened to the rest? They heard the same teaching?!

(Don't worry, I don't know the webmaster in person. My view is not going to be weighted any heavier than anybody else. If many agree that a guidance is needed, I can hold my peace.)
