What Sergio wrote was very correct but the body is held in high honor for it is the temple, it is the vehicle that enables us to live. Within, if one will examine all its various componants, each has a symbolic meaning behind it. Its a world of its own and each is assigned a function to do so naturaly one wants to be kind to their bodies. If you think of it, its awsome of how it all works and I don't know who put us together, but certainly they knew what they were doing.
All religions refer the body as the temple because it is one. I don't know how that is going to fit into your term paper.
There are times in which one will fast and drink water only in times of meditation as it allows the insides of the body to rest itself plus purifies it at the same time. The body really needs only a little of food but plenty of water.
Maybe someone that deals with holistic health can jump in here and help you and perhaps what I have said is not benefit for a paper.
