: Buddhism is a spiritual tradition that is designed to destroy suffering and bring happiness to your life. It's not a devotional tradition where you trust in some kind of god who is going to save you from all your problems and sufferings. Buddhism considers that each person has the potential to destroy suffering hiself. To do this, the Buddha explained "The 4 truths". In the first truth, Buddha explains the different kinds of sufferings. In the second truth, Buddha explains the origin of suffering. In the 3th truth, Buddha explains the posibility of the end of suffering. In the 4th truth, Buddha explains the 84000 different methodologies to destroy suffering and attain happiness. Of course, when my lama explained me these 4 truths, he spent 18 hours to do it. It's not so simple and it's not so easy to understand. I think that any book is able to explain these truths with the same power and clarity than a spiritual master, but they help.

: So if you are interested in stop suffering and be happy, without the intervention of a "magical god", then Buddhism could be very usefull for you. And even if you believe in such "God", Buddhism can be usefull for you, because it gives you important clues to understand the origin of your sufferings.
: While for most religions their objective is the "salvation" and "purification" of your sins, in Buddhism the objective is to be happy. It's very different.

: If you want to know more about this or about a comparision between Buddhism and other spiritual traditions, under an "academic" perspective, please let me known.

: Best Regards

: Sergio
