I applaud this train of thought, this line of questioning. To be "Judeo-Chirstian" about it: Halleluja and Amen! Still, I wonder: Are we opening too big a can of worms here? I often say I think too much, that perhaps my philosophical questions are too much for the sake of philosophising and not enough about contributing to the religion. Discussions such as this one, after all, are what led to the Iconoclastic Wars among the earlier Christians. Details such as these are what split and continue to split world religions of all sorts, from Buddhism to Christainity to Islam. It is easy -- and NECESSARY -- to say, "Don't get hung up on ritual or symbolism." It is quite another thing to actually give up those comforts. This is definitely a difficult question, and I hope it generates much thought, even after the discussion dies down.

Good thinking!

Peace and happy meditation... Sam :)
