My advice to you is simple, be yourself! Westerners are often intimidated by that which they do not know and your concern about disrespect is common. You should be happy that your are consciencious of this concern within your mind, mindfulness is one of the main Buddhist principles for training our minds toward enlightenment. The followers of the Buddhist path, you will find to be very helpful, friendly, and more than willing to discuss the basics of this wonderful philosophy. If your questions come from your heart, they will not be misinterpreted and your will find all the assistance you need to begin your journey. It is truly a marvelous path!
I would also be more than willing to help any way I can if you post more questions on this site.
Best wishes and happiness to you!
: I am extremely interested in becoming Buddhist and I found a temple by me. Would there be someone there that could help me? If so, how would I go about approaching the temple. Can I walk in and ask for assistance? Would I be causing disrespect? I need someone to sit down with me and explain the rituals and teach me.
: What should I do? I would appreciate any help someone can offer.
: Thank you.
